Typical elderly persons kitchen showing multiple safety hazards identified by 360 Home Check
R
Red: Immediate Risk
Loose, Unsecured Rug
This rug has no non-slip backing and a raised edge, one of the most common causes of falls at home. It should be removed or replaced with a non-slip alternative immediately.
R
Red: Immediate Risk
Items Stored at Unsafe Height
Reaching above shoulder height, especially from a step stool, is a leading cause of serious falls and fragility fractures in older adults.
R
Red: Immediate Risk
Tea Towel on Gas Cooker
Fabric left on or near a gas hob is a serious fire hazard. This risk increases with age, particularly if there are any cognitive changes affecting awareness of the cooker being left on.
R
Red: Immediate Risk
Step Stool Left in Walkway
A step stool left in the centre of the kitchen is a serious trip hazard, especially at night or when carrying items. Using a step stool at all significantly increases fall risk for older adults.
R
Red: Immediate Risk
Wet Spill, No Mat
A visible water spill with no non-slip mat creates an extremely high slip risk. A wet-rated non-slip mat near the sink and regular floor checks should be introduced straight away.
A
Amber: Address Soon
Cluttered Worktop and Trailing Cables
A crowded worktop reduces safe working space, and trailing cables from the toaster and kettle create both a pull and trip risk. Reorganising and cable-managing this area significantly reduces hazard.
A
Amber: Address Soon
Heavy Items on High Shelving
Stacked plates and heavy crockery on open shelves at head height are at risk of falling. Reaching for them without a support rail poses a significant balance risk for older adults.
A
Amber: Address Soon
No Support Rail at Sink
Standing at the sink for extended periods without a stable support point is a balance risk, particularly for those with frailty or reduced lower limb strength. A simple grab rail addresses this.
G
Green: Good Practice
Under-Cabinet Task Lighting
Good quality under-cabinet lighting is already in place, excellent practice. It clearly illuminates the worktop, reducing the risk of misjudging surfaces, sharp edges, and hot items.

Still wondering about something? We’re happy to talk it through before you book.

A typical assessment takes around 2 to 3 hours. This includes an initial conversation about your health and lifestyle, a thorough room-by-room inspection of the inside and outside of your home, and time at the end to summarise key findings and answer your questions.
360 Home Check is a private service. While the NHS does offer some falls prevention and occupational therapy services, demand is high and waiting times can be lengthy. Our service is designed to be fast, thorough, and available to you right now without waiting for a referral.
All assessments are carried out by one of our trained Home Safety Consultants, all of whom have backgrounds as registered nurses or senior NHS health and care professionals. Every assessor is DBS-checked, fully insured, and committed to treating your home and privacy with complete respect.
You will receive your personalised written report within 5 working days of the assessment. The report uses a clear Red, Amber and Green rating system and plain language, written to be easily shared with family, a GP, or social services if helpful.
Yes. We offer the option to pay in full (£699 + VAT) or to spread the cost across instalments. Contact us before booking if you would like to discuss payment options and we will find an arrangement that works for you.
Our recommendations are always practical and prioritised. We include low-cost and no-cost changes alongside bigger suggestions. We can also point you toward local council grants, occupational therapy services, and charities that help fund home adaptations for older adults.
